From your old system to your first bill run.
Switching billing systems is the part everyone dreads. Here's exactly how it goes, in five stages. Nothing goes live until you've checked it, and your old system keeps running until you're ready.
What happens, in order.
Set up the basics
Your utility's name and contact details, how bills are delivered (mail, email or both), and your rates, entered with a step-by-step rate wizard that shows a sample bill so you can check it against your ordinance.
Bring your data
Your account list, meter list and each account's opening balance, from a spreadsheet or your old system's export. Past readings and past bills can come too if you have them, and they're optional. Imports are checked row by row, and problems are shown to you before anything is saved.
Choose how you read meters
Smart meters (AMI) are connected and matched to accounts by serial number. If you read by hand, routes are built for the field reading app.
Check everything
A readiness review lists anything still missing (rates, meters without accounts, settings) before you go live, so surprises turn up now rather than on the first bill.
Run your first billing cycle
Open your first cycle, collect readings, and preview the bills before they go out. We're on the line with you for that first month.

How long does it take?
It depends mostly on your data: how clean your account and meter lists are, and whether you bring history. Send us a sample export and we'll give you an honest estimate.
What if our old system can't export?
A spreadsheet is fine. If you're working from paper or something unusual, tell us what you have and we'll work out the path with you.
Is there a setup fee?
Setup is priced separately based on how much data work is involved. For the five utilities in the Founding Utility Program, there's no setup fee.
What if we change our minds later?
Your data is yours. On request, including if you leave, you get a full, verified export. See support & your data.
